In Ecuador, one of the world’s premier coffee-producing countries, the development of coffee ministry/barista schools offers a unique opportunity to strengthen communities while supporting sustainable ministry. Coffee is central to Ecuador’s economy, and barista training provides valuable vocational skills that open doors to employment, improve local coffee quality, and support economic stability. By equipping individuals in brewing techniques, espresso preparation, customer service, and basic business management, the program empowers participants with practical skills that can reduce unemployment and strengthen local communities.
At the same time, coffee ministry provides missional pastors with a natural and low-risk setting to connect with unreached populations. Coffee shops create welcoming spaces where conversations, relationships, and discipleship can happen organically, often reaching people who may never enter a traditional church setting. These cafés can also provide meaningful job opportunities for community members, integrating vocational training with mentorship, relational ministry, and spiritual formation.
This project will establish a space where individuals are trained both in the barista trade and in how to use these skills within a ministry context. As they learn, they will be prepared to work in cafés that intentionally combine excellent coffee with gospel-centered outreach.
