A movement of church planting started in 2006 in more open countries of West Africa and have since spread in the resistant areas of the Sahel. From 2006 to 2017, the church membership grew by the grace of God from 13,276 to 104,667 members and from 132 to 1181 organized churches.

In 2014, a new evangelism effort grew out of that movement: The Sahel Route. The Sahel region is located in the Western part of Africa.

The Sahel Route is a vision of the Africa West Field to bring Christ to one of the least reached parts of our continent through the sending of national church planters and in collaboration with the global Church. Today, the Sahel region is one of the most dangerous mission field in the world with the presence of several religious militant groups and several Western church planters from different denominations have been obliged to leave that region.

However, the Lord put in the hearts of men and women the prayer of the early Church in Acts 4:30: “Grant to your servants to continue to speak out your words with all boldness while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your Holy Servant, Jesus.” Since this movement has started in 2016, the Lord has showed His faithfulness:

• 41 church planters have been sent, coming from four West African nations (Benin: 19, Côte d’Ivoire: 7, Mali: 4 and Togo: 11).
• 68 churches have been planted in four nations of West Africa.
• More than one hundred of Nazarenes have been trained in Bible storytelling.
• One church planting training school opened in Bamako in June 2016.
• Several groups of women are being trained and equipped in different skills to then provide for their families (they get to know Jesus in the process).

The local church’s investment is already visible in the human resources deployed in the mission field and the active participation of the local districts.

The Africa Region will be honored and blessed to partner with local churches, districts and individuals in expanding the Kingdom of God in this great and beautiful continent.
