Rod and Sarah Reed are global missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene. They were appointed in August 2000 and served their entire career in East Africa. They are now beginning their final year of service before retirement.
Rod and Sarah both attended Olivet Nazarene University where Sarah graduated with a B.A. in Music Education and Rod with B.A. in Religion in 1984. Rod went on to Nazarene Theological Seminary and then to Drew University where he earned a Ph.D. in Theological Ethics.
Until recently Rod served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (Academic Dean) of Africa Nazarene University (ANU) in Nairobi Kenya and was responsible for the academic affairs for the whole university. Currently the university is offering over 33 programs. Rod has engaged in research and publication. (Find him on Amazon.com!) But most of all Rod loves his God and his family.
Sarah’s role as the Children’s Ministries Coordinator for the Africa East Field (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Horn of Africa) has blossomed over the years. She and her ministry team travel across East Africa helping church leaders develop effective ministry to children in their local context. Sarah is also serving as a Children’s Sunday School Literature Editor for the Africa Region. Sarah has developed a Children’s Membership Curriculum entitled, My Church!, for the Africa Region.
Sarah and Rod have three young adult daughters and two sons-in-law: Rebecca & Jaaz, Katie & Jotham, and Hannah.
Rod and Sarah share their testimony as follows, "Serving God in East Africa has been a Great Adventure! We are so blessed to have worked with and taught some of the most wonderful people on this earth. Yet, there are major challenges in Africa that cry out for solutions that only God can provide. We are honored to have been given a chance to be part of God’s solution.”
