The Flame and The Field: Lowenbergs on Mission in Africa

Rev. Michael and Rev. Sarah Lowenberg serve as sponsored missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene at Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya. Both ordained elders, they’ve pastored churches in the United States and the United Kingdom, and now they’ve answered God’s call to train and provide spiritual care for future pastors and leaders in Africa, one of the fastest-growing regions of the Church of the Nazarene.

They are joined in Kenya by their sons, Mayson and Gabe, while their daughter, Melisa, continues her studies at MidAmerica Nazarene University. Michael and Sarah call their work “The Flame & The Field.” The flame is the Holy Spirit, igniting hearts and sending them out. The field is the students and leaders they are equipping for service across the continent.

The Lowenbergs invite all to join them—through prayer, partnership, and encouragement—as they carry the flame into the field. To follow their journey or connect with them, visit theflameandthefield.org or email theflameandthefield@gmail.com.
